Moses Kuria, Gatundu South MP expressed his willingness back calls by the CORD to have IEBC disbanded at Nyaribari Chache.
“CORD was part of the team that formed IEBC and if they think the commission is not credible to oversee the next polls then we will support them in disbanding it. But we insist that the correct channel should be used in airing their grievances.”
Kuria who attended the launch of Kisii Youth Forum Edition on Wednesday pointed out that Jubilee Legislators would not block CORD’s plan to send IEBC commissioners home following the heated debate whereby IEBC was termed “not worthy” to handle next year general elections.
“I would like to congratulate CORD for making a turnabout and suspending the protests. We are ready to hold discussions with them so that we can iron out the pressing issues involving the IEBC,” said Kuria.
“A country cannot be built through protests and tears. We cannot progress if others go to their tea plantations to work while others are going to the streets to protest.”
After congratulating COED and welcoming its decision to postpone protests, Kuria also said he knew from the word go protests would not have IEBC disbanded
The announcement by CORD to suspend the protests have received wide acclamation across religious and political quotas with many seeing it as a move in the right direction.
CORD called off protests on Wednesday citing “creating room humble room for negotiations to take place” as the major reason but also warned to resume to streets if their demands would be met through the negotiations. .
Siaya Senator James Orengo, however, said that their parallel Madaraka Day rally will go ahead as planned adding that they have written to Nairobi County Commander to notify him of the rally.
Speaking during the same event, former councilor Kepha Mogaka called upon leaders to fulfill their promises they usually make during such forums.
“We have been having many forums like this but after the forums we have never seen any progress I would like to ask the leaders and politicians to make sure that the resolutions from this forum are achieved,” said Mogaka.
“Youths from this region need to be supported creating jobs opportunities we don’t want to have meetings which do not bear fruits,” he added.
