The IEBC should not be mandated to conduct party primaries, Kanu secretary general Nick Salat has said.
Salat said the electoral agency might not be impartial, which will result in chaos leading to automatic concerns about the 2017 general election.
“Instead, I am opining that the parties conduct their own nominations. The IEBC should only manage the main elections,” he said.
He said the opposition parties had already shown displeasure with the commission and, therefore, it should not be allowed to oversee the nominations. He spoke at a harambee in Eldama Ravine, Baringo county, on Saturday.
His concerns came at a time when some hopefuls fear the political parties might give some incumbents direct tickets at the nominations.
“It should be the responsibility of the parties to nominate their own suitable candidates in the primaries to avoid chaos ahead of the general election,” Salat said.
He said the government should fast track the appointment of new IEBC commissioners.
