IG Kanja Oversees UNDP-NPS Agreement to Boost Reforms

Inspector General (IG) Mr. Douglas Kanja presided over the signing of a Letter of Agreement between the National Police Service (NPS) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at the Service Headquarters, Jogoo House, Nairobi.

The partnership aims to support police modernization, professional development and public trust in policing. It will roll out several initiatives, including leadership training for Officers Commanding Stations (OCSs), Sub-County Police Commanders and Sub-County Youth Liaison Officers (SYLOs), as well as high-level police reform dialogues.

According to IG Mr. Kanja, the agreement is a strategic tool for institutional development and reform within the NPS.

He commended UNDP’s continued support and assured stakeholders of the Service’s commitment to transparency and measurable results.

He emphasized the NPS’s commitment to transparency, timely implementation and accountability.

UNDP Resident Representative Ms. Madelena Monoja welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing its potential to strengthen relations between police and the Kenyan public.

Key witnesses at the ceremony included Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) Chairperson Mr. Ahmed Issack Hassan, UNDP Senior Governance Advisor Ms. Anki Dellnas, Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) Executive Director Ms. Wangechi Grace Kahuria, and Judiciary Registrar Ms. Esther Nyaiyaki, among others.

IG Kanja was accompanied by senior police leadership, including Deputy Inspector General, Kenya Police Service (DIG-KPS) Mr. Eliud Lagat, Deputy Inspector General, Administration Police Service (DIG-APS) Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, DCI Director Mr. Mohamed Amin and NPS Spokesperson Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, among others.
