Masaba North security committee descended on villages notorious for illicit brews arresting several suspects while the lead culprit dodged the dragnet as the death toll on the drink’s victims continued to rise in Nakuru county. Acting on a tip-off,the team confiscated and destroyed 6,000 liters of liquor commonly referred to as ‘Kangara’ and 100 liters of ‘chang’aa’ estimated at over Ksh. 3.6 million in the black market. Area deputy county commissioner, Tobias Otunga disclosed the suspects from Esani had pending cases in court on the same.
Otunga commended the residents for their cooperation in volunteering information and vowed to eradicate the illegal brews that had seen some families break up. The manufacture of illicit brews in the area had attracted the authorities’ ire owing to its adverse socioeconomic and health effects among others on the residents, thus the current on-going intensified campaign to stem them out.
