The State Department of Immigration and Citizen Services has announced that Nyayo House will be opened on Saturday, 18th May 2024 from 9 am to 1 pm.

The department said that the Nyayo House office would be opened to expedite passport collection.

“To expedite the collection of passports, our Nairobi office will be open on Saturday, 18th May 2024 from 9 am to 1 pm,” read the immigration’s statement in part.

Kenyans who have applied for passports in Nairobi and have been notified to collect them can do so at the Immigration offices at Nyayo House this Saturday.

“Applicants who applied for passports in Nairobi and have received notification collect their passports are encouraged to take advantage of the extended service,” urged the immigration office.

On Wednesday, the National Assembly’s Committee on National Administration and Internal Security advocated for new passport applications to be processed within three days.

Additionally, the Committee recommended the establishment of additional immigration offices in the country.

“With adequate resourcing, targeting a maximum of three days for applicants to be issued with passports is realistic. This should be feasible, especially with the opening of more offices in other parts of the country,” Tongoyo said then.

The Immigration Principal Secretary, Julius Bitok, informed the Committee that the Immigration Department had successfully cleared a backlog of approximately 700,000 passports.

“With Parliament’s support, we have dealt with the issue of passport backlog and instituted important reforms, including creating two banking halls, buying two printers, and increasing personnel,” said the PS.

The Nyayo House was also opened on Saturday, 11th May to expedite passport collection.
