Incite violence at your own risk, your status won’t save you, leaders warned

Politicians inciting youths to cause chaos in Kirinyaga county have been put on notice, county commissioner Erastus Ekidor has said. Speaking yesterday during the launch of a peace campaign –Usalama Unaanza Na Wewe Dumisha Amani – Ekidor said Kirinyaga has recorded several cases of political violence ahead of the August 7 general election.

During the Jubilee Party meeting held last month to select county election board members, supporters of Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi and his rival’s Anne Waiguru clashed. Ekidor said any politician found culpable of causing mayhem or inciting the public will be prosecuted regardless of his or her political standing. Ekidor, who with security team, said the decision was reached after deliberations by the county intelligence committee after a number of fights during campaigns.
