INCREASE OF GENDER BASED AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN KITUI

Gender-based violence and domestic violence in Kitui county have highly increased during the pandemic time. Most of the affected people are women and girls and this time around even men. The paralegal officers in Kitui county have been conducting peaceful talks with the affected people to ensure such cases reduce.

According to Isaak Mutinda a parallel network officer in Kitui he says these cases have increased due to the lack of jobs and therefore many families don’t have money for the basic things. Rhoda Mauta in charge of gender says even men this time around are being affected by this as they are not in peace with their families when not providing.
These paralegal officers have been offering guidance and counseling to the affected people as well as having peaceful talks to end the problem.

Some of the cases which are beyond their knowledge connects the affected people with their volunteer lawyers to take the case to court. They have been working closely with the county commissioner’s office to ensure these cases reduce.
