Infotrak: Poll suggests Kenya headed in the wrong direction

By Mercy Imali

A new poll suggests that Kenya is headed in the wrong direction. It also puts President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy President William Ruto squarely on the spot.

The majority of those surveyed — 48 per cent — said the country is headed in the wrong direction; this is according to the poll by research firm Infotrak. The high cost of living, rampant corruption, unemployment and poor governance were cited as the top reasons why respondents said things are not right.

26 per cent of Kenyans believe Uhuru is responsible for the wrong path Kenya is taking. All is not lost, with 34 per cent of Kenyans saying the county is headed in the right direction. A majority cited the prevailing political peace.

Fifteen percent of Kenyans blamed all political leaders for the wrong path, while 11 percent directly said Uhuru and Ruto should be held responsible.

Seventeen per cent, however, said Uhuru and Opposition chief Raila Odinga are responsible for the right direction.

Fifty-five per cent of Kenyans cited the prohibitive cost of living as the reason why they believe Kenya is headed in the wrong direction.

The random sampling of 1,048 adults was conducted between  22nd June-23rd. The margin of error was three per cent.
