INJURED COMMANDER AIRLIFTED

Nyamira  sub county police commander was fatally injured when a junior police officer turned his gun on him  and another officer. He has been airlifted upcountry for specialized  medical treatment.

Nicanor Odhiambo who had been admitted at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital with a bullet lodged in his right limb was picked by a police aircraft and flown to Nairobi.

The officer was the only  survivor from a late evening incident  at Nyamira Administration Police Camp  where  the  rogue police officer suddenly shot at them  over a disputed impending deployment.

Odhiambo and Sgt. Amani Ali, the targets of constable Julius Mdachi, who also shot himself on the  jaw, sustained serous injuries and was rushed to  Nyamira Referral Hospital.

Ali and Mdachi succumbed to the gun shot wounds while Odhiambo was rushed to KTRH.

Senior  county security officers  recovered the AK 47 gun used in  the shootings.

They however could not comment on the incident citing its sensitivity and on-going investigations.
