Insecurity: Top security officials dispatched to North Rift

Dr. Fred Matiang’i the Interior Cabinet Secretary has dispatched a team of top security officials to the North Rift region over a fresh wave of insecurity in the area.

The high level team will reinforce operational responses and lead firm action against criminal elements in West Pokot, Samburu, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Turkana and Laikipia counties.

It includes the Secretary of Internal Security, GSU Commandant, and the RDU Commandant.

“The persistent elements of misconduct and inter-communal squabbling have contributed to instability in the region thereby prompting the Government to take urgent action on this matter,” said Matiang’i in a statement to newsrooms on Thursday.

On Monday, four schools were closed in Arabal area, Baringo South after attacks on several villages Sunday night which injured at least two people.

Residents claim that over 100 bandits armed with AK47 rifles stormed villages at around 6pm shot randomly before raiding homesteads to steal cattle.
