President Ruto made a 3-day state visit to Japan. This was the first visit by a Kenyan Head of State in 20 years. In his visit, President Ruto underscored the strength of Kenya-Japan relations.
In its conclusion, several pivotal investments worth over Ksh.45 billion in Kenya were agreed upon.
From a Ksh 15 billion facility, the Meru Wind Farm Energy will be commissioned. It promises to create several jobs and aims to lower the cost of electricity, benefiting millions of Kenyans and encouraging investments.
Japan will also pump Ksh. 8 billion into the Isiolo Solar Energy project. This will inject more power into Kenya’s national grid.
Toyota will now start manufacturing vehicles locally to reduce the importation of over 120,000 vehicles annually from Japan. Consequently, this will create more jobs in the vehicle manufacturing value chain in Kenya.
Still in innovation, the Japanese capital will enable the construction of the Menengai Geothermal Plant at Ksh. 19 Billion. Additionally, the KEMRI support project will receive Ksh. 3 Billion more research on the development of tropical medicine This is largely through Grants and Private Public Partnerships.
