Jubilee Party release party nominations itinerary

Jubilee Party has scheduled to hold its party nominations for two days. The first nominations will be held on Friday 21 within 23 counties. Later on April 25, Jubilee Party will carry out nominations within the remaining 21 counties.

The party’s National Elections Board said it made the decision following an increase in the number of counties which will hold the primaries from 33 to 45.

At the same time, the board chairman Andrew Musangi said that the Jubilee ballot papers are fool proof.

“If you can produce the Jubilee ballot paper, then you can also produce the Sh100 note,” Mr Musangi says of its ballot papers.

Secretary-General Raphael Tuju also allayed fears of possible rigging of the Jubilee nominations.

“If you can rig the Jubilee process, please come to me and I’ll pay you money,” he said.

Mr Tuju assured aspirants that the process will be free and fair, and that the ballot papers are fool proof.

He said the papers have five security features including different colour codes for the different seats, unique serial numbers and a watermark he said only five people know.

Battle for nominations

The Party is keen on winning the Nairobi gubernatorial seat and two candidates will be facing each other for the party ticket.

Peter Kenneth, who joined Nairobi gubernatorial seat race recently will be facing Nairobi Senator Mie Mbuvi (Sonko). The two denied possibilities of becoming ones running mate and offered to square it at the nomination point.

The national primaries will involve more than 8,000 aspirants for various seats.

The party has printed 7.5 million ballot papers, which will be distributed across the 20,000 polling stations.

Over 260 aspirants will battle for Jubilee tickets for various elective seats in Mombasa County in the party’s primaries on Friday, Jubilee’s top officials had announced.

The party denied claims that there were preferred candidates.

Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shahbal said the nomination process would be free, fair and credible, adding aspirants had no reason to worry.

End of campaigns ahead of primaries

Jubilee Party (JP) yesterday ordered aspirants to end campaigns today, ahead of Friday nominations and asked  the apirants to collect accreditations for their agents tomorrow.

“No use of a public address system with music or announcements or any form of campaigning will be allowed on Thursday and Friday,” secretary general Raphael Tuju said in a statement.

He said the primaries will be guided by the Jubilee Polling Book which mirrors the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) standards and other internationally recognised practices.

In line with the rules, aspirants will not be allowed to use any branded merchandise at the polling centres on nominations day.

“No canvassing of any kind will be allowed around the polling station,” said Tuju.
