Senior Advisor Moses Kuria has issued a statement on the meeting between The 4th President of the Republic of Kenya H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and H.E President William Ruto.
“Our nation is at a crossroads. If there is a time when sobriety, selflessness, patriotism and putting the Interests of the nation above self was badly needed it is now,” read the statement in part from Moses Kuria.
He emphasized that if the economy were to completely collapse, resulting in Kenya becoming a failed state, there would be no victors.
He added that uniting and forgiving one another is far simpler than confronting the consequences of a nation in failure.
“Closing ranks and forgiving each other is much easier than having to deal with the aftermath of a failed nation-state,” added the Senior Advisor.
Kuria expressed gratitude to Former President Kenyatta and President Ruto for prioritizing the nation over individual or sectarian interests.
Following the recent establishment of a broad-based government by President Ruto and Prime Minister Raila Odinga, this meeting serves as another testament to Kenya’s resilience, demonstrating our ability to rise to challenges when faced with adversity.
From a regional standpoint, Kuria indicated that this historic meeting presents a valuable opportunity for reflection.
“The widespread anger and emotions arising from the impeachment of former Deputy President Rugathi Gachagua is understandable and natural. However, reasoning and objectivity rather than anger and emotions should be the guiding factors of how our region handles the current political crisis facing our region,” stated Kuria.
He acknowledged the efforts of President Kenyatta, President Kibaki, and himself in striving to liberate the region from the isolation experienced during the 2007 General Elections and the subsequent violence.
Kuria commended President Kenyatta for opting for a rational approach over the allure of momentary populism.
Kuria further noted that there has been notable concern among senior leaders from various communities, including some government officials, regarding the region’s tendency to isolate itself further and perceived this as a final political manoeuvre.
Kuria emphasized that the region has gained valuable insights and identified two essential actions that must be taken.
“Firstly, we can no longer depend on handshakes and personal meetings to make us feel safe in our country,” stated Moses.
He argued that the repeated handshakes and superficial alliances have validated the positions of President Kenyatta and Prime Minister Raila concerning the BBI initiative.
He called upon President Ruto, President Kenyatta, and Prime Minister Odinga to unite and guide the country in addressing the shortcomings of the BBI, ultimately crafting a Constitution that reflects the evolving realities of our nation and society.
“BBI Season 2 is urgent and cannot wait,” he added.
“Secondly, Mt Kenya region, like all other regions deserves a strong political voice,” stated Moses.
Kuria further stated that departing from the Jubilee Party was a misstep.
“For all the good and bad lessons we have learnt, it was a mistake to leave the Jubilee Party. However, it is not too late. We will now embark on bringing all the political parties with a footing in the region together under the Jubilee Party,” he added.
“Character Cha Kazi and myself will devote all our Energies in that endeavor,” said Moses Kuria.
