Kajiado Joins Push for Greener, Resilient Kenya

The Cabinet Secretary(CS) for Environment, climate change and forestry, Deborah Mlongo Barasa convened a meeting in Kajiado County aimed at deepening collaboration on climate action and environmental conservation, where she noted efforts the government had taken to support the climate movement.

“Kajiado County is set to receive 159.5 million Kenyan shillings under the County Climate Resilience Investment Grant (CCRIG)—part of the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme,” said the CS.

Barasa further noted that the funding will support locally identified projects aimed at building community resilience and addressing the effects of climate change.

The CS stated that she aimed to build a greener, more resilient Kenya, hence, Kajiado was a great start.

“My ministry will continue to provide technical support to ensure climate change is fully integrated into county development plans. The success of this work depends on strong national-county collaboration, and today’s dialogue reinforces our shared commitment to delivering real impact on the ground,” said Barasa.

Kajiado has immense potential to scale up tree planting efforts as it not only has hills and forests but also wetlands and freshwater bodies.

“The county’s ten-year target of planting and nurturing six hundred and twenty three million trees will significantly contribute to our national goal of fifteen billion trees by 2032,” continued the CS.

As Kenya marks World Environmental Day celebration today in Tharaka University, Kajiado County stands in a better place towards sustainability and environmental conservation.
