The High Court in Kajiado has found a man guilty of killing his wife by dousing her with petrol and setting her on fire.
The accused, Stanley Nduati, was found guilty of murdering his wife Salome Kanini on January 4, 2018 at their house in Nkoroi area within Ongata Rongai Township.
The couple had separated for a month over domestic issues and on the material day, Kanini had gone back to her matrimonial home in company of her brother and friend to pick up her clothes.
Her estranged husband is reported to have locked her inside the house making it hard for her brother to rescue her and set her on fire.
The deceased sustained 90 per cent body burns and was rushed to hospital where she succumbed.
The accused had pleaded not guilty to the offense of murder and had alleged that his wife had gotten burned by boiling milk.
Judge Stella Mutuku however dismissed his defense and noted that the evidence presented before the court had proven without any reasonable doubt that the accused had murdered his wife by dousing her with an inflammable liquid which caused a loud explosion.
“Evidence shows that on arrival the accused pulled the deceased inside the house and locked the door making it impossible for her brother and friend who had accompanied her to prevent an attack on the deceased,” said Mutuku.
The accused is set to be sentenced at a later date.
