Kakamega ‘twins’ separated

By Mercy Imali

It was drama and tears when one of the mothers at the centre of the Kakamega twins saga came to claim her daughter, Mevis Imbaya.

Angeline Omina, the biological mother of Mevis Imbaya, stormed a meeting between the Kakamega family and Governor Wycliffe Oparanya. She also declared null and void the pact the families announced in front of TV cameras in Nairobi early this week.

She was in the company of three police officers when she stormed the meeting. She accused the Kakamega family of forcing her biological daughter, Mevis, to continue living with Mrs Rosemary Onyango, the mother of the twins at their home in Furfural, Likuyani Sub-County.

Omina, said “I cannot be left without a child. That will not happen.”

The twins – Sharon Mathias and Melon Lutenyo – had lived separate lives for 19 years. They made a shocking discovery of their resemblance through Facebook and DNA test confirmed they were indeed twins.

Though the family spokesman, Wickliffe Anguche, dismissed the story as “roadside rumours”, Bernard Muli, Kakamega County Police Commander, confirmed that Omina had left with Melvis for Nairobi.
