Kang’ata vows to pay only genuine pending county bills Kang’ata vows to pay only genuine pending bills of the previous county administration
Incoming Murang’a governor Irungu Kang’ata has said he will institute an audit to establish genuine pending bills of the previous county administration.
After he was sworn in as second Murang’a governor, Kang’ata observed that the pending bills amounting to more than Sh. 1.5 billion should be audited before they are paid.
He noted that he will write to the auditor general to assist in auditing the bills so that only contractors who did work as required are paid.
According to the auditor general’s report, it listed Murang’a County as one of devolved units with huge pending bills.
By the end of last year, the county had a pending billing amounting to Sh. 1.55 billion which the devolved units owe mostly contractors.
The newly inaugurated governor further promised to come up with a formula which will ensure county workers are paid on time.
The county workers have been going for months without salaries with the local administration citing delay in disbursement of funds by the treasury.
Kang’ata further promised to ensure he will have people well qualified and experienced to serve as County Executive members and chief officers.
Meanwhile the governor promised to revolutionize health and agriculture among other key economic sectors.
In health, he promised to establish another level 5 health facility in Murang’a south so as to serve the growing population.
Health is very important and it’s a requirement of the government of the day to ensure people don’t suffer when they are sick. Health will be my first priority.” He averred.
