Kenya Adopts WHO Three-test Algorithm for HIV Diagnosis

Kenya has taken a significant step forward in its efforts to combat HIV/AIDS by adopting the World Health Organization (WHO)-recommended three-test algorithm for HIV diagnosis.

This move is a testament to the country’s dedication to enhancing diagnostic precision and ensuring the reliability and safety of HIV testing services.

According to the Public Secretary for Medical Service, Mr Harry Kimtai, the Ministry of Health remains steadfast in its dedication to maintaining the highest standards, despite recent obstacles that have raised concerns about the quality of HIV testing services challenges.

He also stated that by implementing rigorous capacity-building programs and strong quality assurance measures, the Ministry guarantees the dependability and safety of testing services.

Mr Kimtai further emphasized the significance of healthcare providers and the public actively supporting ongoing surveillance efforts by encouraging all citizens to make use of HIV testing services across the nation.

Furthermore, he assured that Kenya remains steadfast in its fight against HIV/AIDS, ranking 7th globally for its HIV epidemic.

“Kenya remains steadfast in its fight against HIV/AIDS, ranking 7th globally for its HIV epidemic. With approximately 1.4 million individuals living with HIV (PLHIV), the country persists in delivering comprehensive care and preventive measures,” he said.

He made the assurance today on behalf of Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha.

The Ministry of Health also stated that Kenya conducts more than 8 million HIV tests across 8,851 testing sites annually.
