In a significant move towards enhancing diplomatic relations, Kenya and Azerbaijan have successfully signed a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Bilateral Political Consultations.
This milestone was achieved during the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where the two nations engaged in fruitful discussions aimed at fostering deeper partnerships.
“Kenya and Azerbaijan have successfully signed the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Bilateral Political Consultations, a significant step toward strengthening future engagements and fostering partnerships between our two nations,” stated Hon.Mudavadi.
The discussions took place between the Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign & Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, led by a senior government official, and H.E. Mr. Bayramov Jeyhun, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
The dialogue emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation and exploring mutual opportunities, particularly in light of Azerbaijan’s role as the host of the upcoming COP 29.
During the meeting, the Kenyan representative commended Azerbaijan’s commitment to environmental sustainability, expressing eagerness to collaborate closely on climate action initiatives.
“Kenya remains firmly committed to addressing global climate challenges, as demonstrated by our leadership in hosting the African Climate Summit (ACS) in 2023 and our continued efforts to promote green energy and sustainable development,” stated Prime Cabinet Secretary.

The signing of the MoU marks a new chapter in Kenya-Azerbaijan relations, paving the way for a robust partnership focused on sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
