In a significant step toward strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with the European Union, the Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula, Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, hosted H.E. Amb. Makoloo Maurice, Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Austria and the United Nations Offices in Vienna, at the Parliament Buildings on Thursday.
The meeting underscored Kenya’s commitment to deepening strategic partnerships with Austria and the broader EU, focusing on key sectors such as green energy, agricultural technology, scientific research, and inter-parliamentary collaboration.
The high-level engagement, held against the backdrop of the Kenyan and Austrian flags, symbolized a renewed effort to enhance bilateral relations.
A prominent emblem of the Parliament of Kenya hung proudly behind the two leaders, reflecting the official nature of the discussions.
Speaker Wetang’ula emphasized the pivotal role of Kenya’s Parliament in fostering international cooperation, stating, “As Kenya expands its footprint in global diplomacy, the role of Parliament remains central in shaping policies and partnerships that uplift the lives of our citizens.”
The discussions highlighted the potential for collaboration in sustainable development, with both leaders acknowledging the importance of innovation in addressing global challenges.
Ambassador Makoloo reaffirmed his mission’s dedication to amplifying Kenya’s voice on international platforms, noting, “The Vienna Mission is committed to championing Kenya’s voice on the global stage, especially through multilateral platforms that support sustainable development and innovation.”
Beyond economic and technological cooperation, the meeting also touched on the role of ethical leadership and interfaith dialogue in governance.
Speaker Wetang’ula praised the Parliamentary Catholic Group for promoting integrity and unity, emphasizing the need for such initiatives in public service.
The engagement concluded with a firm resolve to position Kenya as a forward-looking nation, rooted in democratic values and committed to impactful global partnerships.
