Kenya and China have reaffirmed their enduring and dynamic strategic partnership, underscoring a shared commitment to sustainable development and global cooperation.
At a high-level bilateral engagement held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, President William Ruto and President Xi Jinping presided over the signing of 20 key trade agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) across various sectors of mutual interest.
The newly signed agreements reflect the permanent and people-centred nature of the Kenya-China relationship.
“Our Chinese partners will invest significant resources to improve our road infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, blue economy, green energy, and ICT sectors, among others,” noted President Ruto.
They span critical sectors such as road infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, blue economy, green energy, and information and communication technology (ICT).
These strategic investments are aligned with the Belt and Road Initiative, reinforcing the long-term development agenda shared by both nations.
President Ruto emphasized the significance of these partnerships in accelerating Kenya’s economic transformation.
“These commitments are further evidence of China’s resolute support to our efforts to grow our economy, create jobs for our youth, and unlock the untapped resources of our great nation,” stated President Ruto.
The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to advancing South-South cooperation.
Both countries pledged to strengthen unity among Global South nations and enhance their collective voice in shaping global governance.
“On diplomacy, President Xi and I agreed to continue promoting unity and cooperation among the Global South and enhancing its voice in international fora,” added President Ruto.
A key highlight of the diplomatic discussions was the shared resolve to push for reforms in the United Nations system particularly the Security Council to make it more representative, inclusive, and responsive to contemporary global challenges.`
