The Ministry of Health, with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO), convened a national stakeholders meeting on Tuesday 3rd December 2024 to review and enhance Mpox preparedness and response efforts.

The meeting convened representatives from various line ministries, partner organizations, religious leaders, and officials from the Ministry of Health, all of whom reaffirmed their dedication by signing a Communiqué.

Dr. Sultan Matendechero, speaking on behalf of the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, reported that 23 Mpox cases have been confirmed across 11 counties, with one fatality.

According to the Ministry of Health, a significant rise in infections was noted, with nine new cases in the last two weeks, compared to 14 cases in the initial four months of the outbreak.

“Through collaborative efforts with our partners, we have managed to slow the spread of Mpox, but the recent spike highlights the urgent need to intensify prevention and control measures,” said Dr. Matendechero.

The Ministry acknowledged the crucial role of the Incident Management System (IMS) in coordinating response activities, including public awareness campaigns and containment efforts.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss strategies for strengthening community engagement and ensuring the accurate dissemination of health information.
