In a major boost to Kenya’s preparations for hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports through the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is spearheading significant infrastructural developments.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) are at the forefront of these efforts, managing the construction of the new Talanta Stadium and the upgrading of three key existing stadia to meet international standards.
The ongoing projects include the development of the state-of-the-art Talanta Stadium, which will enhance the country’s sports infrastructure.
In addition, the KDF is overseeing comprehensive upgrades to the Nyayo, Kasarani, and Kipchoge Keino stadia. These upgrades are designed to ensure that all venues meet the high standards required for international football events and provide a top-tier experience for both players and spectators.
“The KDF is overseeing the construction of the new Talanta Stadium and the upgrading of Nyayo, Kasarani, and Kipchoge Keino stadia to international standards as the country prepares to host Afcon 2027 alongside other East African nations,” said CS Tuya.
This initiative is part of Kenya’s commitment to delivering a world-class sporting event as it prepares to co-host AFCON 2027 with other East African nations.
The upgraded and newly constructed stadia will not only serve as premier venues for the tournament but will also contribute to the long-term development of Kenya’s sports infrastructure.
Kenya alongside its neighbours Uganda and Tanzania won the bid to host the 2027 AFCON after meeting the Confederation of African Football requirements including upgrading and constructing modern stadiums.
