“Kenya may face its first-ever cyclone,” Ruto

President William Samoei Ruto noted that the country may experience its first cyclone, Hidaya.

He mentioned that the cyclone is anticipated to strike the coastal area, potentially causing significant disruptions to marine activities.

” The Meteorological Department and the IGAD Climate Application Centre have issued a stark warning. Kenya may face its first-ever cyclone. This cyclone named  Hidaya could hit anytime and is predicted to cause torrential rain, strong winds, and powerful and dangerous waves that may affect marine activities and settlements along the Kenyan Coast, “said Ruto.

He noted that Kenya must act quickly and decisively to mitigate the effects of the present crisis to protect lives and property.

The cabinet on Thursday warned that Cyclone Hidaya might hit the coastal region if the rains persist.

“The coastal region is likely to experience Cyclone Hidaya, which will result in heavy rainfall and large waves,” the Cabinet said.

As per the meteorological department, Cyclone Hidaya originating from the Comoros Islands is projected to impact regions of Mombasa and coastal areas.

The President highlighted the importance of the ecosystem restoration agenda in mitigating the adverse impact of climate change.

He urged Kenyans to sustain and intensify efforts in the restoration agenda which aims to grow 15 Billion trees nationwide within the next 10 years.
