Kenya national team boys, Harambee Stars, have lifted the Kenyan flag higher in latest FIFA rankings.
The national team has moved 10 points up from 88 to 78. The rise in rankings is attributed to Kenya’s impressive outing in last month’s Fifa international calendar
Stars’ have amassed a total of 428 points, 36 more than their tally of 392 last month.
Stars ovepowered highly ranked Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) 2-1 and drew 1-1 with Uganda in friendly matches played at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
The two nations played at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon with DRC reaching the quarterfinals while Uganda failed to go past the group stages.
The results against the two nations extended Kenya’s unbeaten run under coach Stanley Okumbi to 10 matches.
Kenya last tasted defeat on March 27, 2016 against Guinea Bissau in an ill-tempered Cup of Nations qualifier at Nyayo Stadium.
Harambee Stars’ next engagement will be against Malawi at home in yet another friendly match.
Brazil surpass Argentina
Brazil have surpassed Argentina to take top spot in the latest FIFA world rankings, the first time they have reached the summit in seven years, per FIFA.com.
Brazil have not been in top spot since the 2010 World Cup, when they were knocked out by the Netherlands in the quarter-finals. They are now on 1,661 points, 58 above their rivals Argentina
Brazil have won each of their last 10 matches, most recently beating Paraguay 3-0 on Mar. 29 to strengthen their grip at the top of the South America World Cup qualifying table.
The new rankings highlight the rapid incline in Brazil’s fortunes under new head coach Tite, who replaced Dunga in June 2016 after the national team’s poor performance at the Copa America Centenario.
