In a move to enhance regional security and justice cooperation, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) Kenya hosted Dr. Amelia Machava, Deputy Attorney General of the Republic of Mozambique and her delegation for a high-level meeting focused on deepening bilateral collaboration in the fight against transnational organized crime and terrorism.
The engagement marked a pivotal moment in advancing mutual legal assistance, sharing best practices, and strengthening institutional capacity between the two nations.
Dr. Machava, who is in Kenya on an international cooperation mission, underscored the value of technical and operational exchanges in building robust national and regional responses to complex cross-border crimes.
She commended Kenya’s successful track record in prosecution-guided investigations, particularly in the realm of economic crimes, and expressed Mozambique’s intent to adopt similar models to strengthen the Central Office for Combating Transnational Organized Crime (GCCCOT).
“As we seek to strengthen GCCCOT’s capacity, learning from Kenya’s experience will be vital in refining our approaches to both investigation and prosecution,” Dr. Machava noted.
Welcoming the delegation, Kenya’s Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Renson Ingonga, highlighted Kenya’s commitment to tackling transnational organized crime through effective, coordinated, and intelligence-led prosecutions.
He showcased notable case studies in economic crime and emphasized the importance of real-time information sharing, collaborative enforcement and prosecution-guided investigations.
“The growing sophistication of criminal networks requires an equally dynamic and united response. Information sharing and collaboration are no longer optional, they are essential to ensure effective delivery of justice,” said the DPP.
The two institutions also agreed to enhanced mutual legal assistance, coordinated regional enforcement efforts, and the establishment of joint task forces targeting transnational criminal networks.
As the threats facing justice systems evolve, Kenya and Mozambique are reaffirming their commitment to working together for a safer and more secure region.
