Kenya Needed the IAAF Games.

The IAAF WU-18 Games just came to a glorious end yesterday. The games had been taking place at the Kasarani Stadium since the 12th of this month.

Kenyans are indeed craving a breather and the IAAF Games served as exactly that. The games came in at a very political season as the elections are close.

Kenyans from all walks of life came out in their numbers to cheer our great sportsmen and women. It did not matter, what political affiliations you had, if you were with the ‘haves’ or the ‘have nots’. It brought together political rivals; no one cared if you were NASA or Jubilee in there. It was indeed a moment of being proud to be Kenyan.

The fact that the crowd was to full capacity was satisfying enough. It was not so much of who won all the medals.

It is such a shame for the countries that declined to attend the games citing insecurity issues. They couldn’t have been more wrong. The event was colourful, peaceful and filled with ecstatic excitement.

The organisers did confirm that these were the best coordinated WU-18 Championships. This only serves to give Kenya International mileage.

The international media that amplifies our dark side should not miss highlighting the glory that was the IAAF WU-18 championships.

It is a plea to all Kenyans to uphold such unity during and after the election period.
