Kenya power ready to roll out internet

The Kenya hydro-electric distributor firm, Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has finally announced that it will commence its exercise to roll out internet to firms by December this year.

The supply of the fiber optic connections has been in delay since the two giants firm, Safaricom and KPLC, signed a memorandum of understanding.

The managing Diretor, Dr. Ben Chumo, said that they want to take advantage of the grid to deliver the fiber home as it offers them alternative revenue stream.

Kenya power formed an Internet service provider subsidiary dubbed Kenya Power International to handle its Internet business.

Kenya Power will provide its vast infrastructure covering 4,000km in length of fiber-optic cable.

Kenya Power has since 2010 fixed the optical fibre along its high-voltage power lines — traversing through 24 of Kenya’s 47 counties.
