Kenya Power Restores Prepaid Services After System Upgrade

By Marline Atieno

Kenya Power has announced the successful restoration of its prepaid services following a comprehensive system upgrade.

The electricity provider, which serves millions of households and businesses across the country, had temporarily suspended its prepaid services to implement critical improvements aimed at enhancing service delivery and operational efficiency.

The interruption, which began earlier this month, left many customers unable to purchase and load electricity tokens, causing significant inconvenience and prompting widespread frustration.

However, Kenya Power has confirmed that the upgrade has been completed and normal services have resumed.

In a statement released on Monday, the company expressed its appreciation for the patience and understanding shown by its customers during the downtime.

“We are pleased to inform our esteemed customers that the system upgrade has been successfully completed and our prepaid services are now fully restored.” The statement read

“Our prepaid customers are now able to purchase electricity tokens through all payment channels, including M-Pesa paybill number 888880, Airtel Money and various banking channels,” stated KPLC.

On Friday, May 31, the company advised customers to purchase tokens early and in sufficient quantities to prevent unexpected power interruptions.

“We are grateful to our customers for their patience and understanding throughout this process,” the company stated.

The system upgrade was part of Kenya Power’s ongoing efforts to modernize its infrastructure and improve the reliability and efficiency of its services.

The company has been facing increasing pressure to address frequent outages and service disruptions, which have been a source of frustration for many Kenyans.

The restoration of prepaid services is expected to bring relief to many households and businesses that rely on Kenya Power for their electricity needs.

Customers are encouraged to stay informed through official Kenya Power communication channels for updates and support.
