The Cabinet Secretary(CS) of the Ministry of Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, attended and spoke at the Belt and Road Forum on Cooperation, Innovation, and Development of Science and Technology Parks in Chengdu, China as the Guest of Honour representing the Kenyan government on Thursday the 12th of June 2025 where Kenya’s push for innovation led economic growth took centre stage.
He delivered an address where he recognised the importance and impacts of science and technology parks and their commitment to building a knowledge-based economy.
“Science and Technology Parks are engines of innovation, economic growth, and international cooperation. They are dynamic ecosystems where academia, industry, and government come together to spark innovation, incubate enterprises and commercialize ideas that can truly transform our societies,” said Ogamba via X.
CS Ogamba expressed Kenya’s readiness and openness to both local and international investments in the development of Regional Innovation Centres and Science and Technology Parks.
He also emphasized the importance of aligning such initiatives with continental frameworks like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which aims to boost intra-African trade and foster cross-border innovation linkages.
“I firmly believe that these initiatives have the potential not only to reshape our economies but also to redefine the innovation landscape across the African continent,” concluded the CS.
Kenya’s participation in the forum is part of broader efforts to deepen science and technology cooperation with China and other global partners under the Belt and Road Initiative.
The country is currently exploring opportunities for joint research programs, technology transfer agreements, and student exchange initiatives that will build local capacity and strengthen bilateral ties.
