Kenya Reaffirms Commitment to Climate Resilience at GHACOF 72 in Nairobi

By Dorothy Musyoka

Kenya has reaffirmed its leadership and commitment to climate resilience and sustainable development across the Greater Horn of Africa following the official opening of the 72nd Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum (GHACOF 72) in Nairobi.

Speaking during the official opening of the forum Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Chang,  Festus Ng’eno engaged with regional and global partners drawn together by a shared commitment to advancing climate services and sustainable development.

The forum provides a critical platform for scientists, policymakers, and development partners to align climate information with decision-making needs across key sectors.

It was emphasized that climate change is already shaping development pathways across the region, making the strengthening of climate services and early warning systems an urgent necessity rather than an option.

Kenya reiterated its firm commitment to working closely with IGAD Member States, regional institutions and international partners to ensure that climate information is translated into actionable insights.

“Kenya remains firmly committed to working with IGAD Member States, regional institutions, and international partners to ensure that climate information is translated into actionable insights that protect lives, livelihoods, and development gains across the Greater Horn of Africa,” stated Ng’eno.

The forum also highlighted the importance of sustained investment in climate science, partnerships, and human capacity.

Participants were urged to continue building strong institutions and empowering communities to adapt to climate risks.

“Together, we must continue investing in science, partnerships, and people to build resilient communities for present and future generations,” he added.

GHACOF 72 brings together experts from across the region and beyond, reinforcing a shared resolve to strengthen climate resilience and advance sustainable development through science-based, cooperative action.
