Cabinet Secretary Hon. FCPA John Mbadi has signed a landmark KSh 1.8 billion (RMB 100 million) grant agreement with H.E. Ms. Guo Haiyan, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, at the Treasury Building in Nairobi.
This generous grant represents a major investment in Kenya’s healthcare sector, aimed at enhancing the quality of medical services across the country.
“On 27th March 2025, Guo Haiyan,the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya and John Mbadi the C.S National Treasury and Economic Planing of Kenya signed and Agreement of Economic and Technical Cooperation representing the two countries.Under this agreement, China will provide Kenya with a certain amount of grant assistance to fund projects mutually agreed upon by both sides,” stated the Chinese Embassy in Kenya.
The grant will be used to upgrade several key healthcare facilities, ensuring that more Kenyans have access to improved health services.
According to the Ministry of Health, among the beneficiary institutions are Londiani Referral Hospital, Baringo County Referral Hospital, Kilifi Hospital, Misikhu Hospital, Bildad Kagia Hospital, and Kaimosi Farmers Training College.
During the signing ceremony, CS Mbadi expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for their continued support, emphasizing that this partnership is a testament to the strong and growing bilateral ties between Kenya and China.
The grant will allow for the modernizing of medical equipment, the expansion of hospital facilities, and the improvement of healthcare delivery, benefiting thousands of Kenyans in need of quality medical care.
As part of the broader bilateral relationship, the funding aligns with Kenya’s goal of improving public health infrastructure and achieving universal healthcare coverage.
