The diplomatic relationship between Kenya and Somalia continues to flourish, showcasing significant progress since Somalia’s accession to the East African Community (EAC) last year.
According to President William Ruto, the collaboration between the two countries has paved way for enhanced bilateral cooperation in trade, peace, and security.
Somalia has imported goods worth Ksh 5 billion from Kenya, underscoring the deepening economic ties and the mutual benefits of this strengthened partnership. This surge in trade reflects the shared commitment to fostering economic prosperity and regional integration.
“Our two countries are doing more business than before, with Somalia buying goods worth KSh5 billion in the first nine months of 2024,” stated President Ruto.
Beyond trade, Kenya and Somalia are actively collaborating on peace and security initiatives to ensure stability in the region.
“On peace and security, Kenya, and indeed the region, will continue to be engaged in collaborative efforts to ensure stability in Somalia,” added President Ruto.
On the side lines of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) meeting in Kampala, Uganda, high-level talks were held between Kenyan officials and Somalia’s President, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
These discussions focused on advancing agricultural development, bolstering trade relations, and reinforcing joint efforts in peace and security.
The meeting highlighted the shared vision of both nations to promote sustainable agricultural practices, enhance food security, and drive economic growth.
It also reaffirmed the commitment of Kenya and Somalia to continue working together to address regional challenges and build a prosperous future for their citizens.
The continued partnership between Kenya and Somalia serves as a beacon of hope for the region, demonstrating the power of collaboration in achieving common goals.
As both nations look to the future, they remain dedicated to deepening their ties, enhancing trade, and ensuring peace and stability for the benefit of their people and the broader East African region.
