A Kenyan officer deployed under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti sustained injuries during an operation in the Ségur-Savien area, near Pont Sonde. The officer was evacuated to a Level 2 hospital at LSA 1 for urgent medical attention but unfortunately succumbed to the injuries.
According to an official update from MSS Force Commander Godfrey Otunge, the incident occurred on Sunday while security forces were conducting operations in the region, which has seen heightened unrest in recent months.
“Today, Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, one of our MSS officers from the Kenyan contingent was injured during an operation in SÉGUR – SAVIEN, in the Artibonite department. The officer was immediately airlifted to Aspen Level 2 Hospital but, unfortunately, succumbed to the injuries,” stated MSS Force Commander Otunge.
The MSS has not disclosed details regarding the nature of the officer’s injuries but has assured that further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
Kenya has taken a leading role in the UN-backed MSS mission, aimed at stabilizing Haiti and restoring order amid ongoing gang violence and insecurity.
The deployment, which includes personnel from multiple nations, focuses on supporting Haitian law enforcement and ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches affected communities.
As the mission continues, concerns over the safety of MSS personnel remain at the forefront. This incident highlights the risks faced by the forces working to restore peace in Haiti.
