Kenya’s Anti-Terror Police Train in Rwanda Ahead of Regional SWAT Challenge

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations Kenya Emergency Response Team from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit is enhancing its skills at Rwanda’s Counter Terrorism Training Centre in preparation for the upcoming regional SWAT Challenge.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations this event is scheduled to take place at the Mayange tactical training ground in Rwanda on January 29th and 30th, 2025.

“The competition, which brings together counter terrorism teams from member countries in the Eastern Africa region, is the first ever regional event since the formation of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) in 1998 in Kampala, Uganda,” said the DCI.

“In this year’s event, a total of eight countries are participating.”

The DCI said that the participants include the host country (Rwanda) which has lined up two teams (men and women), Uganda with two teams (both comprising men), Djibouti, South Sudan, Seychelles, Kenya, Tanzania and Somalia.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations highlighted that ten SWAT teams are hence battling it out in a competition of precision, agility, mental strength and combat techniques.

The DCI further noted that the event seeks to foster synergy, team work and cooperation among the member countries for a safer and secure region.
