The highly anticipated Kenyatta University Career Week 2025 kicked off with insightful discussions on preparing the next generation for the rapidly evolving job market.
Themed ‘Future Outlook: Careers for Sustainable Development in the Digital Age and Green Economy, the event brought together students, educators, industry leaders, and policymakers to explore opportunities in the green economy and the future of work.
Speaking on behalf of Dr. Alfred N. Mutua, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Principal Secretary Mr. Shadrack Mwangolo Mwadime highlighted the transformative potential of the green economy.
“The future of work is shifting towards the green economy, requiring new skills. With career guidance, industrial linkages, and entrepreneurship, young people can drive innovation and secure meaningful careers in an evolving job market,” said Mr. Mwadime.
He emphasized the critical role of equipping youth with the right tools and opportunities to meet the demands of the modern workforce while addressing environmental sustainability challenges.
Prof. James Kungu, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), representing Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Waceke Wanjohi, reiterated Kenyatta University’s dedication to preparing students for career success.
“Kenyatta University bridges the gap between digital technology and environmental sustainability by equipping students with market-ready skills through leadership development, hands-on internships, mentorship, and innovation programs, empowering rhem for career success,” stated Prof. Kungu.
He praised the university’s holistic approach to education, which prioritizes leadership, innovation, and real-world experience as critical pillars for students to thrive in the competitive global job market.
The Career Week aims to inspire young minds to seize opportunities in the green economy, digital transformation, and entrepreneurship.
Through interactive panels, exhibitions, and workshops, students gain valuable insights into emerging industries and develop practical skills to secure meaningful careers.
