The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Hon. Aden Duale, welcomed a delegation from the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA KENYA), headed by Executive Director Ms. Gloria Ndekei.
The purpose of the meeting was to explore the private sector’s involvement in climate action, with a specific focus on the Kijani Initiative, school orchards, and tree nurseries.
Mr. Duale emphasized that the private sector is an essential collaborator in Kenya’s ambitious 15 billion Tree Growing Programme.
“Industry leaders shared success stories, including Earth Lungs Foundation’s 39M trees and 1,800 jobs, Safaricom’s 2.3M trees, targeting 5M and One Acre Fund’s 330 nurseries across 34 counties,” CS Aden Duale said on X.
“Other contributors included the tea sector, Isuzu East Africa, Kenya Manufactures Association, East Africa Breweries Limited and Bamburi Cement, collectively planting 215M trees nationwide,” the CS added.
The CS also briefed the team on National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) Kenya’s new Extended Producer Responsibility regulations, urging private sector support for climate action through community engagement.
He was joined by the Director General NEMA Mamo Mamo, Forestry Secretary Evans Mutari and 15bn Secretariat Coordinator Susan Boit among others.
