Kericho County assembly has today approved the BBI amendment bill after a debate by the MCAs.
Ainamoi MCA Cheruiyot Bett, Humphrey Kirui (Kapsuser) and Erick bett (Kipchebor), however accused the speaker (Domnic Rono) for being partisan, saying that those who opposed the bill were not given chance to debate the motion.
They said the bill was passed by force as most of the MCAs were to vote according to the views of the voters they collected yesterday in the sub-counties’ public participation exercise.
The county assembly conducted a public participation exercise across the six sub-counties yesterday where five rejected the bill (Bureti, Ainamoi, Kipkelion East, Soin/Sigowet and Belgut) while Kipkelion West approved the bill.
Majority leader Hezron Ngetich who is also Chilchila MCA said Kipkelion West has been sidelined for a long time and the BBI will assist to improve the living standards of the residents.
