KERICHO/KISUMU BORDER DISPUTE.

Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot has raised red flag of failure by authorities to address the issue of boundary dispute between the county government of Kericho and Kisumu at Sondu.

Cheruiyot, who addressed the press after meeting with Sondu town management committee, said the dispute is very a serious issue which if not addressed may lead to bad consequences in the area.

Sondu market is a cosmopolitan town shared by three counties which includes, Kericho, Kisumu and Nyamira counties.

Cheruiyot said maps and surveys shows that about 90 percent of Sondu market is in Kericho side but revenue officers from Kisumu have been crossing to Kericho to collect revenue.

He said the officers have been harassing the traders and even paying revenue twice for both counties in some instances.

The senator said he has reached to County commissioners and even raised the issue in parliament and nothing has been done.

Andrew Mutai, Secretary, Sondu town management committee said the issue has brought tension in the area which has been volatile, calling for amicable solution.

Kericho governor Paul Chepkwony had earlier promised to  talk with the Kisumu County government but it did not bore any fruits.
