A Kibera Court has sentenced a man to 50 years in prison for defiling a minor in Raila Slums, in a ruling that underscores the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) commitment to protecting children and ensuring justice for victims of sexual offences.
The prosecution, led by Ann Murage, presented eight witnesses who detailed how the accused lured the unsuspecting minor into his house before defiling her and recording the heinous act on his mobile phone.
In delivering the judgment, Kibera Principal Magistrate Hon. Christine Njagi found the accused guilty of defilement and possession of pornographic material, describing the offence as “sadistic” and emphasizing that the minor had been cruelly robbed of her innocence and childhood.
“Kibera Principal Magistrate Hon. Christine Njagi, while convicting the accused for defilement and possession of pornography, termed the offence sadistic, explaining the minor had been robbed off her childhood,” noted the ODPP.
Alongside the custodial sentence, Hon. Njagi ordered the accused to pay Ksh. 2 million in restitution to the victim, in accordance with the Victims Protection Act.
Additionally, upon completing his prison term, the offender will remain under supervision for seven years, as stipulated under Section 39 of the Sexual Offences Act.
