In the early hours of the morning, anti-narcotics officers from Kilindini successfully tracked down a suspect who was lingering at the Likoni matatu station, eagerly anticipating a delivery from Tanga, Tanzania.
According to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the pursuit commenced at 1 am.
“The hunt was at 1am as a team of Anti-Narcotics officers from Kilindini followed a suspect who was loitering at the Likoni matatu station, anxiously awaiting a delivery from Tanga, Tanzania,” DCI reported on their X account.
At 6 am, Collins Omondi retrieved the package and discreetly stowed it away in his Subaru Treza, bearing the registration number KDE 948E.
The officers, closely monitoring Omondi’s every move, trailed him to the Fazuka Apartment Complex in Utange Solian, where they promptly arrested the unsuspecting smuggler.
A thorough search of his vehicle uncovered a manilla sack cleverly concealed beneath a pile of oranges.
“A meticulous search in his vehicle uncovered a cleverly concealed manilla sack, camouflaged with a mound of oranges,” the DCI said.
Upon closer inspection, the sack was found to contain 14kg of dry greenish plant material, strongly suspected to be the illegal drug, cannabis.
“The sack was found to harbour 14kg of a dry greenish plant material, arousing strong suspicion of the illicit drug, Bhang,” DCI reported.
With the incriminating evidence secured and the suspect in custody, the officers proceeded to knock on the door of Halima Masudi Hassan, who was ready to conduct the illegal business.
In her house, an additional 12kg of bhang was discovered.
By 7 am, as early risers were opening their businesses, the Port Police Station had in custody two suspected traffickers, a quantity of illegal drugs, and a Subaru,” stated the DCI.
