Kindiki Declares Nationwide Crackdown To Curb Road Carnage

By Debra Rono

Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Administration of National Government Kithure Kindiki today has announced a nationwide crackdown on traffic offenders and road-unworthy vehicles in a bid to reduce road accidents.

Speaking in Kisumu during the official opening of the Kisumu West Deputy Commissioner complex, Kindiki announced that the operation will be led by the traffic department of Kenya Police and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA)

Kindiki further added that no individual will be spared if found flaunting the traffic rules “No motorist, pedestrian or even cyclist will be spared if found flouting the traffic laws and regulations, with the spotlight also on corrupt, incompetent and negligent law enforcement officers.”

This directive comes even as the country is witnessing a surge in road accidents in recent days. On Monday the country witnessed two accidents where several students from Kenyatta University lost their lives, while others sustained serious injuries when their college bus collided with a truck in the Maungu area near Voi on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
