Police at Magena, in Kenyenya sub county, have arrested a prison warder for allegedly exploding a tear gas canister, after he was denied entry into a bar during curfew hours.
Constable Bonventure Marucha, attached to Kendu Bay main prison, had booked a room at the trading center before proceeding to the bar where he ordered the owner, Sospeter Moruri, to open the door and serve him with drinks. After the owner declined because it was curfew time,the irate warder dropped the tear gas canister in protest.
The matter was reported at the area police station prompting his arrest. Kisii county police commander,Francis Kooli confirmed the incident and said investigations have started to establish how the warder got access to the government stores. Kooli also said the police will determine whether,the warder was on duty before taking both administrative and legal measures on him.
The warder hails from neighboring Nyangusu sub-location in Nyamache sub county.
