Shock struck many after eleven people died while seven others were injured following an accident involving a matatu on Katito-Kendu Bay road, Kisumu county on Thursday.
Andrew Naibei , the Nyanza traffic boss said the eleven died instantly after their driver lost control of the vehicle which veered off the road and crashed on a culvert at Pap Onditi.
Naibei said that they suspect the vehicle, which was on its way to Sirare from Kisumu town, was speeding at the time of the accident.
He said that some of the victims were students who were reporting back to school.
“The injured were rushed to Pap Onditi sub-county hospital and later transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital for further treatment,” he said.
County commissioner Mohammed Maalim said thorough investigations will be conducted into the cause of the accident.
