Kitui MCAs drop to 54 after fewer nominations

The number of Kitui MCAs has dropped to 54 as there are now 14, not 16, nominated representatives. Forty members were elected to the county assembly, six of whom are serving their second terms.

“We had 16 nominated MCAs in the previous assembly but this time round only 14 were nominated by political parties making the total 54,” said Muitisya Mutetei, who is assembly officer in charge of communication.

Mutetei addressed journalists on Tuesday on the sidelines of the orientation of new MCA. Deputy assembly clerk Lucy Waema led other assembly officers in the orientation ahed of the swearing-in on Thursday.

“We want them to be fully familiar with the operations of the assembly. That is what informed this orientation exercise,” said Mutetei.
