The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced to all VAT-registered taxpayers that as of the November 2024 tax period, VAT returns will be pre-filled with tax information accessible to KRA.
According to KRA, this initiative aims to simplify the VAT return submission process.
“The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) notifies all VAT registered Taxpayers that the VAT return will be pre-filled with tax information available to KRA starting from the November 2024 tax period. This is to simplify the VAT return filing process,” read the statement from KRA in part.
Consequently, all VAT-registered Taxpayers are advised to confirm the accuracy of their pre-filled November 2024 VAT returns before submitting them on or before 20th December 2024.
Furthermore, all taxpayers are reminded of their responsibility to issue electronic tax invoices and to submit the invoice details to KRA as mandated by law.
Any claims for input VAT that are not validated through TIMS/eTIMS or do not correspond with existing customs import declarations for import VAT claims will not be permitted for deduction in return.
KRA also emphasised educating taxpayers on the simplified VAT return filing process.
“KRA will continue to sensitize Taxpayers on the simplified VAT Return filing process. Further, KRA will continue to support and facilitate all Taxpayers to comply with the electronic tax invoicing requirements,” the Commissioner for Domestic Taxes added.
