A section of Lamu County residents whose relatives were killed and forced to flee from their homes following terror attacks in the area are calling on the government to deal firmly with politicians suspected to be colluding with terrorists.
The residents insisted that some politicians are allegedly behind the attacks to scare voters ahead of the August 8 polls. According to Stephen Wanyoike, a resident, the government should move with high speed and relocate residents living in the forests claiming they are part of insecurity challenges in the entire county.
Albert Muiruri, who lost one of his relative after Poromoko terror attack, called on the government to arrest and investigate those suspected to cause insecurity.
The residents are now urging the government to set up a military camp near Boni Forest and Pandanguo as a quick solution to dealing with the current insecurity menace in Lamu County.
The appeal came just hours after suspected Al Shabaab militants abducted six people among them a Principal Secretary and government officials at Milihoi, Lamu County. The PS, State Department of Public Works, Maryam Al-Maawy, and five others were, however, rescued by elite KDF, GSU forces hours after the abduction.
