Kenyatta University is distinguished by its unique facilities that combine innovation, culture, and advanced research. Key among these are the Confucius Institute, the Chandaria Business Innovation and Incubation Centre, and the National Phytotherapeutics Research Centre, all of which position KU as a launchpad for the future.
The Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University (CIKU) serves as a primary centre for Chinese language and cultural studies in Kenya. Established in 2008 through a partnership between Kenyatta University, Shandong Normal University, and China’s Hanban Headquarters, CIKU addresses Kenya’s increasing demand for Afro-Chinese expertise. It offers certificate courses in Mandarin, cultural exchange programs, and career-oriented training, equipping graduates with skills for global opportunities.
CIKU fosters cross-cultural dialogue through vibrant events like Chinese New Year celebrations and capacity-building workshops.
It positions Kenyatta University at the forefront of East Africa’s educational and economic collaboration with China, making it an essential resource for students pursuing transnational careers.
The Chandaria Business Innovation and Incubation Centre at Kenyatta University is a dynamic hub designed to transform ideas into market-ready ventures through partnerships and entrepreneurship support.
By connecting innovators with investors, mentors, and corporate collaborators, the centre accelerates technology transfer and commercialization, ensuring research translates into real-world solutions.
The centre drives skills development, knowledge exchange, and sustainable enterprise growth, empowering entrepreneurs to thrive in Kenya’s competitive economy.
The National Phytotherapeutics Research Centre (NPRC) at Kenyatta University is a trailblazing facility dedicated to advancing herbal medicine research, quality assurance, and commercialization of plant-based therapeutics.
Officially launched in 2022, the centre focuses on validating traditional remedies through cutting-edge techniques, like GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry), LC-MS/MS (Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry), and HPTLC (High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography), ensuring safety and efficacy.
NPRC has made strides with products like Frankincense oil (for pain relief and skin health), Rosemary oil (for memory and digestion), while partnering with the Ministry of Health, NACOSTI, and global institutions.
Its work aligns with Kenya’s Big Four Agenda, promoting universal healthcare through locally manufactured herbal solutions.
NPRC bridges academia and industry by training students and professionals in phytomedicine through community collaborations. The centre’s training ensures international standards in lab practices and commitment to sustainable healthcare innovation.
Kenyatta University offers more than just facilities; it provides limitless possibilities. Here, every space is designed to inspire, empower, and propel you toward excellence.
