Elected leaders and professionals in Kisii and Nyamira counties associated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party have launched a blueprint tailored on Deputy President William Ruto’s hyped bottom up economic model. North Mugirango Member of parliament, (Nyamira County) Joash Nyamoko said the document, which captures potentials in agriculture and tourism was formulated by a ten-member committee of professionals drawn from the two counties. The Mp said the two counties have untapped potential in various aspects, stressing the model is geared towards empowering grassroots people to boost their economic lives and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
He said Ruto could advise President Uhuru Kenyatta on the bottom up approach but it was the president’s discretion to heed it or not, adding the model is likely to be implemented after the 2022 General Election. The Lawmaker, accompanied by colleague Shadrack Mose ( Kitutu Masaba), former Mps- Walter Nyambati, ( Kitutu Masaba) Joseph Kiangoi, (North Mugirango) and Omingo Magara ( South Mugirango) said professionals from the two counties conducted research on the economic and social realities in Gusii community, stressing it will help implement the model’s policies. PDP party leader James Omingo Magara noted the model targets 15 million poor people and is geared towards creating value addition to agricultural produce, livestock and promoting tourism in the area to transform their lives. Magara, said farmers will be given subsidies to boost agricultural and livestock production to enable them generate profits and pay taxes to support the country’s economy.
Vidoris Nyamanga ( Nyamira county) said small and medium entrepreneurs from the counties will be given cheap loans to invest, create jobs and contribute to the country’s revenue. The leaders addressed the media after a consultative meeting in one of the hotels in Kisii Town.
