Lionesses forced to trim AfroBasketball squad due to financial constraints

The national Women basketball team Lionesses has been forced to travel with only ten players and 4 officials to Dakar, Senegal for the FIBA Women Africa Cup of Nations Championships that kick off on Firiday 9th August.

A contingent of 17 players and officials was initially set to travel. however, failure by the Government to remit funds in time forced the Kenya Basketball Federation to trim the squad. Salma Akinyi, Becky Nkatha, Natalie Mwnagale and Melissa Akinyi were left out of Coach Ronnie Owino’s squad. The assistant coach has also been left behind.

KBF chairman Paul Otula, said the players will be considered for once the Government honours its pledge to support the team.
